A Word from Our CEO

“Nexus has had an amazing journey so far, having grown every single year for the last 25. There are not many companies in the world that can say that—let alone in Yorkshire! We’re proud to serve our customers and partners with integrity and innovation. This anniversary is not just a celebration of our past, but a launchpad for even greater success in the years ahead.” Scott Haddow, CEO, Nexus Vehicle Rental

In 2000, a local fleet management arm of the Skylark group of companies started operating from a small office in Shipley near Bradford. While it started as a team of just five people, it wasn’t long until their journey veered into uncharted territory, fuelled by a visionary approach that sought to transform the commercial vehicle rental industry.

Humble beginnings and a vision

Nexus’ story started with a shared vision between its founder and one of the company’s first employees, John Ellis (pictured on the left).

The mission? To be the first to take commercial vehicle rental online. At a time when the web was still emerging as a platform for business, this was a bold and ambitious goal. They set out to automate processes and scale the business without the traditional need for a large workforce.

It was this innovative thinking and dedication to automation that allowed Nexus to grow rapidly and lay the foundation for its continued success.

The birth of a name: why Nexus?

The company wasn’t always called Nexus. Initially, it was set to be named Solus. However, a trademark challenge led to a rebranding, and thus, Nexus was born.

The name, meaning both “a connection or series of connections linking two or more things” and “a central or focal point,” was a perfect fit for the company’s mission. It symbolised how the business would serve as a pivotal connection in the vehicle rental market, linking customers to services and providers through a cutting-edge, tech-driven platform.

Having been involved for the full 25 years, working alongside four different CEOs and five different investors, John Ellis has had a front-row seat at every stage of the journey.

“Our first office in Shipley was barely the size of the company’s current boardroom!

“In the early years, my role involved every aspect of the business including answering calls and taking reservations, raising invoices, managing disputes, managing customers and suppliers, IT support and system enhancements, through to reporting on the overall business performance.

“After becoming Operations Director in 2006 I spent several years more focused on the internal operation and supply chain management side of things. By 2010 I had been promoted to Managing Director which again became more of a wide-ranging role with responsibilities for Operations, Supply Chain, Outsourcing, Tenders, Account Management as well as lots of interaction with the new business teams. This title remained up until the end of 2024 although the role very much changed over the years dependent on the needs of the business and our various shareholders over the period.”  John Ellis

Key milestones: from vision to reality

Over the past 25 years, Nexus has seen several significant milestones that have shaped its trajectory:

  • The Launch of Iris (2006) The introduction of the Iris system marked a turning point for the business. It was the result of years of hard work and dedication, and its launch helped elevate Nexus to a serious contender in the market. With Iris, Nexus began to scale more effectively, gaining attention from larger businesses and expanding into new sectors.
  • Acquisition of FMG’s Vehicle Rental Arm (2008) This strategic acquisition was a game-changer for Nexus. Not only did it double the company’s size, but it also eliminated a major competitor in the market, further cementing Nexus’ position as a leader in the industry.
  • National Contract Win (2018) For nearly a decade, the team worked tirelessly to secure a contract with a high-profile, national company. When it finally came through in 2018, it was a major victory, marking a significant moment in Nexus’ history and highlighting the company’s ability to build long-term, successful relationships with clients of all sizes.

But beyond these business milestones, Nexus has also created countless memories thanks to the incredible people who’ve been part of the journey. The company has always been driven by a dedicated, passionate team that cares deeply about its mission and success. This loyalty and commitment have been key to Nexus’ ability to overcome challenges and continue to grow.

“I have fantastic memories of working with some great people over the 25 years. Truly loyal to Nexus and our shared goals, as well as being some of the hardest-working and most committed people you could ever meet. Each one should feel very proud of what we have achieved together.

“After nearly two decades in leadership, I transitioned to the role of Executive Adviser to the Board in 2024, offering guidance to the new executive team, sharing valuable insights, and helping ensure that the company’s next chapter would be just as successful as the first.”

John Ellis

The secret to Nexus’ success?

One of the key reasons Nexus has been able to thrive for 25 years in such a fast-paced industry is its relentless commitment to innovation. The company’s tagline, “We Never Stop,” perfectly encapsulates this ethos. Whether it’s through developing new systems, exploring new ways to serve customers, or constantly refining their technology, Nexus has always stayed ahead of the competition.

But beyond innovation, Nexus’ success is also due to its incredible team. Over the years, the company has attracted top talent who are passionate about the business and dedicated to delivering exceptional service. This combination of cutting-edge technology, an unbeatable team, and a customer-centric approach has allowed Nexus to build a reputation that stands out in the rental industry.

Looking to the future

Nexus’ journey over the past 25 years has been one of growth, innovation, and relentless pursuit of excellence. From its humble beginnings in a small office in Shipley to becoming a market leader in the vehicle rental industry, the company has never lost sight of its core values. It’s a story of hard work, dedication, and a passion for disruption that has made Nexus a standout success in an ever-changing market.

In 2023 the company welcomed its current Chief Executive, Scott Haddow. Scott has been working in technology sector for more than 25 years, specifically in private equity-backed tech-led businesses over the past 19 years.

Scott Haddow, Chief Executive Officer

As Nexus celebrates its 25th anniversary, the focus is squarely on the future. The goal is to continue growing, remain a leader in the rental market, and expand into new territories and markets. But equally important is maintaining the company’s culture as somewhere people are supported, developed, and encouraged to thrive.

“Nexus has had an amazing journey so far. In the last 25 years it has grown every single year, and I’m not sure there’s very many businesses around the world that have done that, let alone in Yorkshire!

“Why has it succeeded? I think that the business has acted with integrity the whole time. We are very conscious of our opportunity to serve our customers and deliver value for our customers, but equally, we act with integrity and honesty. We establish trust and confidence within our network, and we deliver a great service and partnership for our suppliers. We’re constantly innovating, constantly changing the way that we do things, looking to add more value in the sector.”  Scott Haddow

Looking ahead, the vision is clear: to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, to diversify into new markets, and to continue offering a workplace where employees are inspired and excited to contribute to the company’s success.

Here’s to the next 25 years—and beyond.

We’re proud to announce that Nexus Vehicle Rental has been named the Large Company winner for Yorkshire & the Northeast as part of the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) Vision 2025 initiative.

Key Iris® Updates for Fleet Managers and Suppliers

As of 1st April 2025, new regulations will require suppliers to upload and maintain Laden Brake Test (LBT) compliance documentation to ensure that their HGV fleets remain fully compliant with industry standards. This change is essential for fleet safety, and Nexus is here to guide you through it.

To help you stay on top of these compliance requirements and streamline your processes, we have made several key updates to the Iris® platform. Let’s take a closer look at how the law change could affect your operation and how we plan to simplify the compliance process.

How is the law changing?

From 1st April 2025 the new regulatory changes will require all HGV hires to have up-to-date LBT compliance documentation.

  • To follow best practice and comply with legislation there is an expectation that every safety inspection will include a brake performance assessment using either an RBT, a suitable electronic brake performance monitoring system (EBPMS) or a decelerometer with temperature readings.
  • If EBPMS is not used it is expected there is a minimum of 4 laden brake tests spread evenly across the year, this can include the annual test.
  • Where a laden brake test is not carried out a risk assessment detailing the reasons, must be completed by a competent person who understands braking systems and components.

Further detail can be found here in section 5.3 of the government’s website guidance to maintaining roadworthiness.

How Nexus is supporting you

Ahead of the change to the law, we have made several updates to the HGV compliance paperwork management function within Iris®. These updates will allow for the collection and management of Laden Brake Test (LBT) paperwork to help you stay compliant and audit-ready,

The upgrades will provide better visibility, tracking, and management of LBT compliance paperwork. The changes will simplify compliance management and prepare your fleet for VOSA audits, ultimately reducing your admin burden and minimising risk.

“By collaborating across the business, we’ve introduced updates that make Laden Brake Testing (LBT) compliance more straightforward, giving our suppliers the clarity and confidence they need to meet the latest DVSA requirements while safeguarding operational efficiency.

“These new Laden Brake Testing regulations presented a significant challenge for suppliers and customers alike. Our team rose to the occasion by developing real-time compliance tracking and streamlined documentation processes, making it easier to adapt to the latest standards and maintain road safety.”

James Talbot, Head of Product

Updated Iris® features for HGV suppliers

  • Pre-Rental & On-Rent Compliance Visibility: You’ll have full visibility of upcoming and in-progress LBT compliance paperwork, so you always know which documents need to be uploaded.
  • Performance Tracking: Easily monitor how well your fleet is meeting compliance requirements.
  • Seamless Paperwork Uploads: Upload LBT documents directly within an â reservation. This provides instant access to compliance evidence for your HGV fleet.

Updated Iris® features for HGV fleet managers

  • Real-Time Compliance Tracking: You’ll be able to instantly see what LBT paperwork is still missing for both upcoming and on-rent vehicles, ensuring you can source it in time for an audit.
  • Improved Document Access: Easily access, extract, and store individual LBT compliance documents for your records, alongside non-rental fleet paperwork.
  • Seamless Maintenance Planning: Export LBT service appointments from the HGV Dashboard to merge with your non-rental maintenance schedules. This ensures that your entire fleet remains compliant.
  • Enhanced Supplier Communication: When booking, you’ll be able to inform suppliers of your LBT service intervals, helping ensure the required tests are scheduled correctly.

As we approach the April 2025 deadline, fleet managers and suppliers will need to ensure that all necessary LBT compliance paperwork is uploaded, stored, and readily accessible.

It’s more important than ever to stay ahead of the curve. Whether you’re an HGV fleet manager or a supplier, these updates will help you manage the process with ease.

If you have any queries or concerns about the upcoming changes to the law or the updates within Iris®, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Welcome to Nexus’ new ‘Day in the Life’ series, where we speak to different members of the team and reflect on their career to date, where they see Nexus and the industry going, and a little bit about them outside their career.

So Gerry, how did you get started in the industry?

I began to understand the fleet industry through my time at British Gas, where fleet was always part of the DNA. With so many engineers on the road, managing the vehicles was critical – not just for operational efficiency but also for cost control. Rental and leasing played a big role in that, and I saw firsthand from a ‘fleet customer’ perspective how challenges like vehicle downtime and supplier reliability could create real pain points.

My next role was in asset management for another B2B company, which had a similar dynamic – engineers in commercial trades relying on well-managed fleets in order to do their jobs effectively. Bizarrely, the business I was at actually worked alongside Nexus for a few years via our leasing partner, but I wasn’t involved in that contract.

After nine and a half years I decided to leave that side of the industry, largely because I wanted something different. I had a short break and then received a call from a headhunter with things moving very quickly after that. Meeting Scott and the Exec team who are so key to delivering success.

What attracted you to Nexus?

First and foremost, it was the uniqueness of the business model. I was really intrigued by how it operates – managing over 550,000 vehicles without owning a single one. It’s just such a fascinating concept and I wanted to understand it fully.

Beyond that, I love a new challenge, and Nexus presented something different from what I’d done before. The team was another major factor, as I was impressed by the people and the culture right from the start. The company’s growth story is phenomenal and the opportunity to be part of the transformation and expansion was something I couldn’t pass up.

Having experienced that private equity cycle before and understanding the demands of it, I saw the journey that the business was going on and it excited me. What also stood out prior to joining was that Nexus is the best in class at what it does, and at that time it wasn’t shouted about enough in the market – we’ve certainly already changed that now. That potential growth and visibility made it an even more compelling opportunity.

What does a typical day look like for you at the moment?

A typical day for me at the moment is incredibly varied, which is one of the things I enjoy most about the role. I’ve spent a lot of time understanding how the business works, what makes it tick and how the team works overall. Building trust with my direct team and ensuring they have the autonomy to drive things forward has been a key focus.

The role itself is all about transformation, change and growth. This involves keeping an eye on the market – how it’s shifting, what challenges and opportunities are emerging and how Nexus needs to evolve to stay ahead. Supplier relationships are also critical, so I spend time meeting key suppliers, visiting workshops, and strengthening those partnerships to ensure we’re working together effectively.

Customer feedback is another major focus of mine, understanding their experiences, both the good and the bad, so we can continuously improve. I’ve had conversations with competitors too, which I think is healthy in an industry where many people have been around for decades. For me, it’s not about coming in and changing everything but rather looking at it from a customer’s perspective and thinking ‘what would I want to see done differently’.

Nexus is, of course, a tech-driven business, so a lot of my time goes into thinking about how we leverage technology to expand into new markets and new territories. There’s definitely no such thing as a boring day here, and that’s what makes it so exciting.

Have you learnt anything new since starting at Nexus?

I’ve learnt a huge amount since joining Nexus. From an industry perspective, one of the biggest surprises for me was the sheer depth of data and support that Nexus provides to the market. As a customer in the past, I had no idea just how much insight Nexus offers and how it fits into the ecosystem between leasing companies and corporates. That was a real eye opener.

Beyond that, the industry itself has been fascinating. The scale of fleet ownership, particularly the number of bank-owned fleets, highlights the value of the sector in the UK, and shows that it has a clear direction. But at the same time, from an international perspective, the market feels quite disjointed with a lot of uncertainty.

Sustainability and the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) have also been major talking points in the industry and are the biggest challenges the sector is facing. I’ve personally experienced that transition – moving to an EV for two years and then switching back to petrol. As a user, I fully understand the challenges businesses and drivers face when making that shift.

Attending industry events, meeting suppliers and competitors and seeing where everyone is on their journey has been hugely insightful. There’s still so much to learn, but that is what makes it exciting. It’s been great to step into something different, start fresh and challenge myself to understand a whole new industry.

What do you enjoy most about working for Nexus, and what do you see for Nexus’ future?

What I enjoy most about working for Nexus is, without a doubt, the people. I know that sounds like the expected answer, but it’s absolutely true. The team has been incredibly open, honest, and welcoming, which has made settling in so much easier. They’ve accepted me and my very direct, blunt, and honest approach. There’s no politics, just a shared drive to move the business forward. Everyone has a positive intent, and we’re able to have direct, constructive conversations – which is exactly how I like to work.

Beyond that, the real excitement comes from the scale of opportunity. We’re in the middle of a transformation that’s changing how we think about customers, suppliers, and operations. We’re challenging the long-standing ways of working, not just because ‘that’s how it’s always been done’, but because we now have the capability to refine and improve. If we unpick the limitations, there’s always a slicker and more efficient way of doing things that looks better for the customers. The potential in our data alone is enormous. We’ve barely scratched the surface of what we can do with it, and as we delve into its full value, we’ll be able to make an even bigger impact on the industry.

Having the foundation laid in the UK opens up so many opportunities internationally. We want to be brave, make decisions and change the curve. The biggest opportunity, and challenge, for Nexus is taking the UK model and replicating that internationally. A lot of our customers already have international footprints, and when they understand what we offer and compare it to European or international counterparts, it is clear we are already ahead of the game. I think we will be in a position to expand our offering sooner than we originally thought, it’s really getting within reach.

We are constantly evolving, and that is really exciting. What makes Nexus so special is that it isn’t a business where you just maintain the status quo – it’s all about growth, change and transformation. We have the wonderful problem of having to prioritise our opportunities because there are so many. Watch this space because there’s some fantastic things to come.

What kind of changes do you see happening within the industry, over the next 12 to 18 months?

Over the next 12 to 18 months the biggest change in the industry will undoubtedly be the impact of electric vehicles (EVs) and the supporting infrastructure. Whether driven by regulation, OEMs or pricing models, EV adoption is going to be the defining challenge and opportunity for the industry and will shape the space over the next few years.

I had a call with the BVRLA, who are the body that look after the rental companies in the UK, which was focused on data. They recognise we have levels of data that nobody else in the industry has, we have such a unique perspective on the market and can bring some really useful insight.

The economy has also started to settle down, but you never know what is going to happen from that perspective, and any fluctuations could have an impact on the rental market. If leasing becomes more challenging or lead times become an issue, demand for vehicles will peak and then potentially drop again as conditions change.

But, circling back around, if you ask any industry professional what the biggest challenge will be over the next couple of years, the answer will be EVs.

What is your biggest career achievement, or standout moment, to date?

My biggest career achievement to date isn’t tied to a specific deal, financial success or hitting a target – it’s more about the journey I’ve taken and the opportunities I’ve created for both myself and others. Sometimes the biggest things that happen from a learning perspective are when things have hit the bottom, and you’ve had to recover back out of that.

I started at British Gas when I was 16 as an apprentice, and as soon as I finished the apprenticeship they supported me through university. After that I was an engineer for about nine years and then started on the management track. It was a lot of work but I had so many opportunities off the back of it, and although some people may say it’s about luck, it’s more than that. I had people believe in me and wanted to pass that onto others.

To be able to see the impact I’ve had on colleagues, and seeing the people I have worked with gain confidence, develop their skills and progress – whether that is within the same business or leaving to go elsewhere – is incredibly rewarding. Giving people the belief that they can succeed, just as others did for me, is something I value deeply.

If people have faith in you, and you have faith in yourself, I always believe you can go as far as you want and create your own path. So really, that is my biggest achievement, learning the true value of development and helping others see what they can achieve.

Aside from Nexus and the fleet industry, what else interests you?

Outside of Nexus, I’m big on health and well-being. Most mornings I go to the gym before work because it’s just a great place to clear your head. If you’ve had a bad day, have something lingering on your mind, or are even just feeling low, you can go to the gym and it completely clears you and snaps you back in place. It’s also incredible how often I’ve walked out of the gym and the solution to a problem I had has come straight into my head. You’ve given yourself that space to take a step back and look at things in a new way.

Beyond that, my wife and I travel a lot. We’ve been really lucky and there’s probably only a few countries still on my bucket list that I haven’t ticked off yet. I’m also a real adrenaline junkie. I’ve got a motorbike license and passed my private pilot license. I’ve got a share in a small plane at a local airport, and it’s great to just be able to go up in it.

My wife always jokes that as soon as I’ve ticked one thing off my bucket list, I move onto the next one. There’s always something else to strive towards, and more than anything, it’s important to just enjoy your life.

The fleet vehicle and plant hire industry is winding down from the busy 2024 peak season, which saw Nexus reach a new record on rental with over 28,293 vehicles on the road at one time. We pride ourselves in navigating the fast-paced unpredictability of peak, making the most of planning ahead, streamlining processes and bringing in the right technology to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Here are some key learnings, takeaways and top tips from Nexus to keep in mind when you review the peak period.

Back to a ‘new’ normal

Whilst every year brings different challenges, the 2024 peak season was the first ‘normal’ year since the Covid-19 pandemic. However, even compared to pre-pandemic years, 2024 has proven to be the most successful yet. Overall, the team processed 5,844 peak vehicles across van and HGV bookings. Adding to trailers into the mix, the total peak vehicles came to 6,500. At one single point in peak, we had 28,293 vehicles on the road.

Although the industry likely will not go back to pre-Covid behaviour completely, it is balancing out more and more, meaning businesses can plan further ahead for future peak seasons and accurately forecast the vehicles that may be needed.

Sharing the workload

The peak period is a whole team collaboration, with each person getting bookings onto the system for suppliers. It is important to share the workload and avoid burnout or unnecessarily high stress situations.

It is best to arrange staff in a way that they can focus on specific areas, whilst having the ability to provide support to other areas of the business as needed. For example, at Nexus we had one staff member looking after the day-to-day operations, another liaising with suppliers and a third managing training and escalation routes. Other staff members had specific clients to manage but knew they had the support there when needed.

Keeping pace

Success in peak 2024 can be decided by the hunger and energy within the team, keeping the pace needed and thriving under pressure. Motivation played a key role in this – the want to support colleagues in any issues they were facing and keeping the level of service for clients as high as possible.

It is important after the peak season has calmed down, that managers sit down with staff members to gain their insight on how it went, what they feel could be done better and what worked well. This knowledge from those ‘on the ground’ can be invaluable to inform future peak seasons and help to ensure no employees are feeling burnt out. It is also vital to have a support plan in place for those who may need a bit of support.

Leading technology

Utilising technology, data and analytics to help forecast demand and optimise fleets is more than just a consideration in 2025, it is a necessity. Looking back at peak 2024, the innovations and optimisations in the Iris technology has been game changing. We used over 130 suppliers in this peak season, which is incredible. Through IRIS, we were able to successfully manage the suppliers and provide top level service with very little complaints.

Reviewing how technology impacted your peak seasons must be done each year, as it will help highlight where improvements can be made and where previous mistakes can be corrected.

Key to success

The peak period isn’t measured simply by the number of vehicles out on the road, it is all about the end user’s experience. At Nexus we work closely with customers, and while hitting the KPI targets is always one of the ultimate motivators, having happy customers who will return in the future is the key.

Arranging meetings with key customers to gain their insight of how the season went and where they felt expectations were not met, or exceeded, can highlight where changes need to be made for next time.

And here are a few top tips from Nexus…

Vehicle condition and maintenance

It is vital to ensure that, following the peak period, the vehicles are in the best possible condition. Planning in services following high periods of use can help keep vehicles off the road for the least amount of time possible.

Demand forecasting

Following the peak period, conduct reviews of the last few months to help anticipate and plan for the 2025 peak season – it’s never too early to start preparing. Use the insights gained to predict the stock levels needed, reduce idle vehicles and plan in maintenance needs.

Review employee satisfaction

Look over what went well and what did not. Were the staff adequately prepared for the peak period, or did they struggle to keep up with demand? Were the customers satisfied with the levels of service? Looking back over what may not have gone to plan can highlight the areas that need improvement for future peak seasons.

Review partners and systems

Similar to the above, did the partners meet expectations? Did they help or hinder the workload? With Nexus, businesses have access to a larger and more flexible inventory pool, meaning they can respond swiftly to unexpected demand surges without overcommitting resources or underutilising available vehicles. It’s also important to review internal systems, looking at whether they performed as needed.

It is vital to review the peak season, the challenges and the achievements. This allows you to plan for the following year, making the most of the busy period and effectively using it as a period of growth and success. At Nexus, we make peak feel like business as usual.

As we bid farewell to the year of transformation, growth, innovation and success that was 2024, it’s time to set our sights on the future and all that 2025 has in store for Nexus, our suppliers and our customers.

Here Nexus’ Executive Board share their hopes and ambitions for the year ahead.

Number one tech-led business for vehicle rental

“In 2024, Nexus Rental has reached several key milestones that I’m incredibly proud of; we successfully grew our business in almost all aspects; attracting talent, winning new customers, financial performance and opening a new Leeds City Centre ‘hub’, and we completely re-branded the business at the same time.

Looking ahead, 2025 is a year filled with immense potential. My vision for Nexus is to continue evolving as a forward-thinking company that nurtures our talent, grows our sustainability, technology, and enhances customer and partner satisfaction. I hope to expand our offering into new and adjacent markets and continuing the transformative ‘Tech-led’ journey.

We also aim to improve our internal operations with AI and data analytics, improving both efficiency and the customer and employee journey. We will also focus on the evolution of the Nexus re-brand to ensure we continue to be viewed as the number one tech-led business for vehicle rental.”

Growth, support, equality, diversity, and inclusion for our people

“As we move into 2025, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead. I’m really looking forward to seeing the business evolve and transition into the tech-led space, taking full advantage of the innovations and possibilities that lie ahead.

On a personal level, I’m eager to see the fantastic foundations we’ve built when it comes to well-being, equity, diversity, and inclusion really take off. It’s one thing to launch these plans, but it’s another to watch them thrive and make a real difference.

Equally important to me is seeing our people continue to develop and succeed. I want to ensure we’re putting the right support, training, and resources in place so that everyone has the chance to pursue their career aspirations and grow with us.”

Delivering a tech vision for the future

“Tech at Nexus has been through a huge overhaul over the last 12 months. When I joined at the end of 2023, the ambition was to become a truly tech-led business.

While respecting the company’s legacy and the journey that has brought Nexus to where it is today, 2024 was about putting wheels in motion to deliver a vision for the future, building a culture of innovation, and supporting our talented team as we enter the next chapter.

This level of transformation doesn’t happen overnight, and in 2025 we will continue this evolution.

We will also continue our investments in AI, data, and our people to expand our capabilities, nurture our talent, and arm our people with tools and resources that will help them excel in their careers.”

Entering new markets

“In 2024 we celebrated another year of growth and financial success, attracting new customers but also improving profitability. None of this would be possible without our great people and it has it’s been lovely to see how all teams continue to work together, develop, stretch themselves…and have fun.

No day is a boring day at Nexus!

My hopes for 2025 are for much more of the same. We will continue to deliver a great customer and supply chain experience, providing opportunities for colleague development, and delivering the numbers (of course). But we can’t rest on our laurels, so I expect further evolution as a business to embrace cutting-edge technology, growth opportunities, new markets, more efficient ways of working.”

Delivering for our customers

“In 2025 we will continue to grow at pace through new business wins and the strategic development of our products. We will be innovative and improve efficiency with tech-led products and continue to invest and develop our people.

We will continue to work towards a deeper understanding of our customers, enabling us to co-innovate and deliver our mission:

To harness the power of our solutions and support our customers’ to be their most trusted and valued partner”.

Sustainability in the vehicle rental industry

“Looking ahead to the next 12 months, the industry faces the challenge of sustainability and how to advance the UK’s EV infrastructure, but the growth opportunity in front of us is mammoth. Our potential in new products and markets is clear to see, however we still have opportunities for growth in our traditional markets.

Our tech development is challenging age-old processes as we make changes to benefit our customers, suppliers, and the business.

The data we have is unique and, if we can utilise it in the right ways, it could have a massive impact on the industry.

We are on a journey both as individuals and as a team. There’s a fantastic foundation and reputation to build on, but we need to be brave enough to challenge how we do things and embrace change.”

In today’s fast-paced business environment, having the right tools is crucial for success. For many industries, this means having access to vehicles that are not just functional but tailored to specific operational requirements.

Recognising this need, Nexus has introduced its ‘Vehicles with Specification’ service, offering bespoke vehicle solutions designed to meet the unique demands of various businesses.

What Is ‘Vehicles with Specification’ and Why Was It Brought to Market?

Imagine the freedom of having a fleet that isn’t just fit for purpose but built precisely with your purpose in mind. That’s the driving force behind our latest innovation.

We saw too many businesses settling for vehicles that didn’t quite meet their needs, struggling to adapt to the limitations of standard models. ‘Vehicles with Specification’ was born to bridge that gap, offering truly bespoke solutions that put your business firmly in the driver’s seat.

At the heart of this service is customisation. We’re not talking about minor tweaks here and there—we mean vehicles designed to your exact requirements.

Need a van with secure tool storage and safety features like cameras for your field engineers? Done.

Need a fleet of out-of-the-box vans with towbars and Chapter 8 for a project next week? Done.

Perhaps a vehicle equipped with refrigeration for temperature-sensitive goods? No problem.

Our team works closely with you, taking the time to understand your operations and challenges before crafting a solution that fits seamlessly into your workflow.

Why partner with Nexus for your bespoke vehicle requirements?

Flexibility is baked into everything we do.

Depending on your needs, we can deliver bespoke vehicles in as little as 24 to 48 hours. For more complex builds, we’ll work with you to create a timeline that fits your schedule.

And here’s the best part: we take on the upfront costs of any customisations, allowing you to spread the expense over your rental period.

It’s all about making tailored solutions accessible and practical for businesses of all sizes.

But who is this service designed for?

The answer is anyone who needs a vehicle that works as hard as they do.

Picture a construction manager overseeing multiple sites, relying on a van outfitted with tool racks, enhanced security features, and space for on-site equipment.

Or a mobile healthcare provider delivering vital services from a vehicle equipped with medical-grade refrigeration and sanitary facilities.

Event coordinators moving delicate gear from venue to venue.

Utility engineers needing mobile workstations stocked with specialised tools.

These are just a few examples of how a bespoke vehicle can transform the way businesses operate.

Backed by a team of vehicle customisation experts

Of course, none of this would be possible without the expertise behind the service. At Nexus, we’re proud to have a team of specialists who are passionate about making your vision a reality.

From the first conversation to the moment your vehicle hits the road, we’re here to guide you through every step. And for larger, more complex orders, our dedicated project teams step in to ensure everything runs smoothly, from sourcing the right suppliers to managing lead times and costs.

It’s all part of our commitment to delivering a service that’s as seamless as it is impactful.
