Changes to HGV LBT Compliance Law April 2025

Key Iris® Updates for Fleet Managers and Suppliers

As of 1st April 2025, new regulations will require suppliers to upload and maintain Laden Brake Test (LBT) compliance documentation to ensure that their HGV fleets remain fully compliant with industry standards. This change is essential for fleet safety, and Nexus is here to guide you through it.

To help you stay on top of these compliance requirements and streamline your processes, we have made several key updates to the Iris® platform. Let’s take a closer look at how the law change could affect your operation and how we plan to simplify the compliance process.

How is the law changing?

From 1st April 2025 the new regulatory changes will require all HGV hires to have up-to-date LBT compliance documentation.

  • To follow best practice and comply with legislation there is an expectation that every safety inspection will include a brake performance assessment using either an RBT, a suitable electronic brake performance monitoring system (EBPMS) or a decelerometer with temperature readings.
  • If EBPMS is not used it is expected there is a minimum of 4 laden brake tests spread evenly across the year, this can include the annual test.
  • Where a laden brake test is not carried out a risk assessment detailing the reasons, must be completed by a competent person who understands braking systems and components.

Further detail can be found here in section 5.3 of the government’s website guidance to maintaining roadworthiness.

How Nexus is supporting you

Ahead of the change to the law, we have made several updates to the HGV compliance paperwork management function within Iris®. These updates will allow for the collection and management of Laden Brake Test (LBT) paperwork to help you stay compliant and audit-ready,

The upgrades will provide better visibility, tracking, and management of LBT compliance paperwork. The changes will simplify compliance management and prepare your fleet for VOSA audits, ultimately reducing your admin burden and minimising risk.

“By collaborating across the business, we’ve introduced updates that make Laden Brake Testing (LBT) compliance more straightforward, giving our suppliers the clarity and confidence they need to meet the latest DVSA requirements while safeguarding operational efficiency.

“These new Laden Brake Testing regulations presented a significant challenge for suppliers and customers alike. Our team rose to the occasion by developing real-time compliance tracking and streamlined documentation processes, making it easier to adapt to the latest standards and maintain road safety.”
